Getting started

What 2v2.io is, whether it is free, and how to start a run in your browser.

What is 2v2.io?

2v2.io is a free browser arena shooter. You lead a two-fighter team against a rival duo on a small top-down map, snapping instant cover walls mid-fight while a storm ring closes in. It is single-player: your teammate and both opponents are AI. Clear a wave by eliminating both enemies, then face a tougher wave. Your score is how many waves you clear.

Is 2v2.io free to play?

Yes. 2v2.io runs entirely in your browser with nothing to buy, download, or install. There are no ads interrupting a run, no premium tiers, and no account wall. Open the page and the arena is already running.

Is 2v2.io multiplayer?

No. Despite the "io" name, 2v2.io is a fully offline single-player game — your teammate and both opponents are controlled by AI that scales up each wave. That keeps it instant to start, with no lobby, no ping, and no accounts, while still delivering the 2-versus-2 team fantasy.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. 2v2.io is a 100% browser game built with HTML5 canvas and JavaScript. It loads in any modern desktop or mobile browser with no plugin, app store listing, or installer.

Rules and scoring

How waves, health, building, the storm, and score work.

How do I play 2v2 io?

Move with WASD or the arrow keys, aim with the mouse, and hold left click to fire. Press Space or E to build a cover wall in front of you. Eliminate both enemy fighters before you and your partner are both down. On a phone, use the left thumb to move and the right thumb to aim and fire, with on-screen build and reload buttons.

How does scoring work?

Your score is the number of waves you clear in a single run. The game separately tracks personal eliminations — enemies finished by your own shots — and saves your best wave and best elimination count on your device. There is no points-per-kill system; surviving another wave is the only thing that raises your score.

What is the storm?

The storm is a glowing safe ring that shrinks from wide open to a tight circle over about 28 seconds each wave. Standing outside it drains your health per second, and the damage ramps up the further out you are and the longer you stay. It resets at the start of every wave and exists to force both teams into a fight instead of a stalemate.

What happens when I get knocked down?

If only you go down, your AI partner keeps fighting. If they clear the wave, you are revived for the next one. A run only ends when both of you are down at the same time. Between waves the surviving team also heals part of its health.

How do waves get harder?

The first several waves stay deliberately gentle so you can learn movement, building, and focus fire. After that, enemy health, damage, aim, and speed ramp up slowly — the arena and rules stay the same, only the opposition toughens.

Can enemies build cover too?

Yes. Enemy fighters drop their own walls when they take fire and get pinned, tinted red instead of blue. Their cover blocks your shots exactly like yours blocks theirs, so pushing a dug-in enemy duo means breaking or flanking their walls.

Is there a time limit on a wave?

There is no hard timer, but the storm ring reaches its smallest size after about 28 seconds and stays there, so dragging a wave out just means fighting in a tiny circle with nowhere safe to retreat.

Strategy and combat

How to win fights, use cover, and survive deeper waves.

How do I win fights in 2v2.io?

Build cover before you commit, focus the same target as your partner so enemies go down one at a time, and reload only behind a wall. Let the shrinking storm pull runaway enemies back to you rather than chasing them into damage.

How does building cover work?

Press Space, E, or the hammer button to place a wall on the grid cell just ahead of your aim. Each wall costs one material out of a maximum of six; materials regenerate slowly and top up from crates. Walls block bullets from both teams, absorb a fixed amount of damage, and dissolve on their own after roughly 22 seconds.

What should I do on the very first wave?

Wave one is the calmest it gets — enemies are slow to aim and hit softly. Use the first handful of waves to learn movement momentum, test how far a wall drops from your aim, and practise focusing fire with your partner before the ladder starts to bite.

Should I stay near my partner?

Loosely, yes. Fighting from the same piece of cover lets you both shoot one enemy and trade less. Splitting to opposite sides of the arena hands the enemy duo two clean 2-on-1s.

Devices, saving, and controls

Mobile play, controls, local progress, and why a record might disappear.

Can I play 2v2.io on mobile?

Yes. 2v2.io is built touch-first: dual on-screen thumbsticks for move and aim, plus dedicated build and reload buttons. The arena and controls are laid out to stay above the fold in portrait so you never have to scroll while playing.

Does 2v2.io save my progress?

Your best wave, best eliminations, runs played, and total waves cleared are saved locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no login. Because the record lives on the device, a new browser profile, another phone, or cleared site data will look like a fresh start.

What are the exact controls?

Keyboard: WASD or arrow keys to move, mouse to aim, hold left click or F to fire, Space or E to build a wall, R to reload, M to mute. Touch: left thumb move stick, right thumb aim-and-fire stick, plus on-screen hammer (build) and reload buttons. Space or Enter also starts a run and advances to the next wave.

Why did my record disappear?

Local saves are cleared if you wipe cookies or site data for the game, switch browsers or devices, or use a private window that has since closed. Some privacy tools and low-data modes also clear local storage. Because the record never leaves your browser, it cannot be recovered from our side.

Does 2v2.io work offline?

It needs a connection to load the page the first time. After that the game logic runs locally, so a brief drop in connectivity will not interrupt a run, but there is no dedicated offline app or install package.
